The Britannia Railway Bridge was designed by Robert Stevenson and constructed between 1846 and 1849. This landmark bridge, supported by three solid masonry towers, contains eight tubular girders through which the London-Holyhead railway line travels over the Menai Strait. After the reconstruction of the bridge following a 1970 fire, a road deck was added above the railway platform. The Britannia Bridge now serves as a major crossing to the island of Anglesey.
